The Jot Down – December 25, 2022

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays y’all! This week’s The Jot Down is already starting off dramatically different from last week’s, as the Christmas Cooties strike again. I got COVID. Last time I had it was January 2020 and it was terrible. This time around is better because I’m vaccinated and boosted. Aside from the congestion, occasional cough and fluctuating temps, I’m recuperating the best I can.

The only plus about getting sick now is that I’m on Winter Break for work. Downside is that the free time I was going to allot for content creation has quickly been substituted with much needed rest. In my state of  being in and out of sleep, I’ve been thinking about what can realistically get done while sick. It’s such an open ended question that’s dependent on my energy.

Ketchup

  • Last week I started For Lamb by Lesa Cline-Ransome. Intense and informative read that highlights lynchings in America and the women who are victims of them.
  • I watched the FX series, Kindred (2022) on Hulu and really enjoyed it. Go check it out if you haven’t seen it yet.

Books

In between last week’s WWW Wednesday post and today, I completed one book and I’m in the middle of a few others. Hopefully I can finish them all before the new year and not have any carryovers.

On my ‘recently read’ shelf are For Lamb by Lesa Cline-Ransome (1/10/23), The Talk by Alicia D. Williams (10/18/22), and Witches of Brooklyn: S’More Magic (9/6/22).

On my “Currently reading” shelf are the same short story collections from last week, Angola is Wherever I Plant My Field by João Melo and Call and Response by Gothataone Moeng. Not gonna lie, they both have been somewhat of a challenge for me to get through. Hence, I’ve been reaching for graphic novels instead.

Blogging

I have several book reviews I need to work on and my November Reading Wrap-Up (mind ya business, lol). In my current state, my energy is at a low. Usually I’d use text-to-speech to help me draft my posts, but my voice is shot from congestion and coughing. I wouldn’t be surprised if I end up handwriting everything and typing it later.

How My Day’s Been So Far

I’ve mostly been in and out of sleep due to the meds and just being sick in general and in result, I haven’t read much during the day. For the most part, my time’s been occupied by Little Demon, Demon Slayer, and catching up on YouTube videos.

QOTD (Question Of The Day)

How do you spend your time while sick?

  1. I’m sorry to hear you’re sick but I’m glad to hear books are comforting you! When I’m sick I love to lounge around, watch movies, and listen to audiobooks! I’m listening to “Bamboozled by God” at the moment. Looking forward to your take on it! Get well soon!

    1. Hello Leesha :-). Yeah. It sucks. Good thing I’ve had time to recuperate. Seems like you and I are cut from the same cloth. I, too, like to partake in movies and lay around while recovering from sickness.

Ooooh, I have “Bamboozled by Jesus: How God Tricked Me into the Life of My Dreams” by Yvonne Orji on my TBR as well. How’s your enjoyment of it so far?

      Thanks for stopping by!
