Hey, hey, hey, or hello, hello, hello! Welcome back to Reading Beyond the Book Cover, where we stay reading beyond the book’s cover.
I’ve been thinking about hosting a buddy read or read-along for quite some time, and after more than enough time uttering to no one but myself, I’ve taken the cue from Nike, and I’m just going to do it.
The first series I’ve chosen for this buddy read is the Lexington, Alabama series by Mary Monroe. There are three books total, and the goal is to read all three so I can properly review the Netgalley ARC I received of the 3rd installment, Love, Honor, Betray (released March 28, 2023).
Here’s my plan for finishing all three books by the end of July:
Mrs. Wiggins: Book one has 49 chapters. Ideally, I want to complete the book and have it reviewed in two weeks. Do a little math, rounding up, that positions me at a committed reading of 3.5 to 4 chapters per day.
Empty Vows: Book two has 60 chapters and that’s around 2 chapters per day in a month. I’ve spaced it out for 4-5 weeks to accommodate the last few chapters.
Love, Honor, Betray: Book three has 54 chapters, prologue and epilogue included as “1 chapter”, and that’s about 2 chapters per day in one month. I’ve spaced it out for about 27 days of a 31-day month.
You are welcome to follow along with my reading schedule, but it’s not a requirement to participate. Buddy reading with me is asynchronous, so there’s no pressure to read at the same time. It’s just comforting to share experiences and talk about them. Doesn’t matter when. 🙂
