The Jot Down for December 3, 2022

What’s the purpose of this post?

Realistically, weekends are more conducive to productivity for me and the blog. My weekdays are consumed by a full-time finance position in Higher Education, keeping home, reading, whatever else comes up and now drafting blog posts.

Lately, I’ve shared ‘Weekend Reads’ posts to social media, and as of recently, I’ve realized how long-winded those have been. I tend to get passionate about whatever is going on in the media I’m absorbing, and before you know it I’m either ranting, raving, or rambling about it (lol). In retrospect, those social media posts really should have been considered blog posts because of the content length alone.

What is ‘The Jot Down?’

To better express myself and share content that compliments its medium, I am allocating space for it in a new blog category, ‘The Jot Down.’ ‘The Jot Down’ will house my lengthy ‘Weekend Reads’ and share what’s on my tentative writing schedule. I may also include any other blogging plans and tasks that I’ve been thinking about more than putting into action. Let’s look at it like a self-audit or self-assessment.

My intentions are to commit to a weekly post, but we will play it by ear and see how it goes after this initial entry. I’m not comfortable nor confident enough to commit to an actual posting schedule. My aim is to post more regularly, not on a schedule. It stresses me out just thinking about one (lol).

Now that my mouth is empty of all those words and explanations, let’s do it again (lol). Please keep reading on if you are nosy and want to know what I’m getting into. Don’t be surprised if it’s another book (teehee).

The Jot Down – December 3, 2022

Happy Saturday y’all! Another weekend and I’m juggling multiple books once again.

Books

This weekend got off to a great start. I finished a carryover read from November, Disappearing Acts, and it was another surprising 5-Star read. Surprising because I thought I was too annoyed with the characters, but in actuality it was exactly why it deserves such a high rating. It’s proof that Terry McMillan is superior at developing characters. I’m excited to write my review/reaction/reflection for it.

Next up on my ‘currently reading’ shelf is The Villa. It’s scheduled release date is January 3, 2023, and I need to read and review it well before then.

I started The Villa immediately after I was approved for the ARC. By now I thought I would’ve made more reading progress, but I keep falling asleep. This book may require a change of routine when it comes to my preferred reading location, so laying down in bed and reading is not allowed until I finish it.

Blogging

Unsurprisingly, drafts have occupied most of my mental space and that’s an issue. I have so many unfinished posts that it’s beyond embarrassing. I am the epitome of always being in the middle of something and almost finished. If you ever meet me in person, you’ll notice that I often interrupt myself and the people I’m speaking too. It’s like I have so much on my mind that it cannot help but to interrupt itself continuously.

Yes, I roast myself. Get used to it (wink).

In my queue are a few drafts of book reviews, library book bag posts, and my first Monthly Reading Wrap-Up post with stats. I’m most excited for the stats part of the Wrap-Up post because right next to my love of words is my love of numbers. Spreadsheets and data tell stories too, so I’m super pumped to share that with you all soon. Fingers crossed that I can post it sometime early next week. Wish me luck.

In Summation

Aside from reading The Villa, posting more content and maybe going to an escape room with my sister, I’ll be jumping in and out of someone’s movie or television show. I’m boring, I enjoy my own company (lol), and to love me is to know me (wink).

Right now I’m watching The Good Nurse on Netflix.
