Howdy and hello Dear Readers! I’ve been tagged to participate in the Horror Booktube Tag. Yay!!! This tag is making its rounds as part of Don’t Die July, a month-long, horror-themed collaboration between Ven of Ven’s_Corner and Noah of In-between The Lines. Noah tagged me, so I will be tagging people as well. Hopefully, they will participate and share their responses. 🙂
In the comments, let’s nerd out together! Please let me know if you enjoy horror and what you enjoy about it.

My Tag Questions and Answers
- How and when did you get into horror?
- I’ve always been into horror. There’s something about being intentionally afraid. Choosing to consume an experience that excites you with fear or disgust. It’s the train crash I can’t look away from. The one book that solidified I was a horror girl is Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. Please be ready to see that book in a majority of my responses. It still slaps. HARD!
- What was the first horror book that you read?
- Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is the start of it all. I’m still haunted by the scarecrow that could move and I believe that the book is one thousand percent better than the movie. Note: One thousand percent does not exist, but I’m saying it to express how I feel about Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark the book in comparison to the movie.
- What horror-related goodness can we expect from your channel?
- From time to time, I may share some of the horror films and tv shows I’ve watched that aren’t mainstream. I pride myself on consuming art that isn’t well-known and sharing it with others.
- Do you have any favorite themes or subgenres within horror?
- Social horror is where it’s at for me. There’s something about the horror behind things that can actually or have actually happened that shakes me up. To this day, there is one TV show that I cannot finish, it’s called Them and it was too much. I may try again, but not now. I also enjoy anything that has to do with the occult. Witches, Voodoo, Hoodoo, you name it, I’m there.
- Name an underrated horror novel or author.
- I’m not sure about this one. Anyone that’s not Stephen King is underrated in my opinion.
- Name an overrated horror novel or author.
- Stephen King. I like his work, but I need for him to maybe not publish something for a while. I’d be more interested in him doing something like James Patterson and create a publishing imprint that seeks out horror authors to uplift and support.
- Recommend three of your favorite horror novels.
- Recommend a book for someone new to the horror genre.
- Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark is GOAT when and if anyone wants to dip their toe into horror. The series transcends school-age readers and is well accepted and applauded across all age groups.
- Are there any book-to-film adaptations that you particularly loved or hated?
- I haven’t read Lovecraft Country, but I really enjoyed the TV series adaption of it. It’s a social horror (my favorite type of horror). Book-to-film adaptation that I hated is Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. It was ew, yuck, gross. I expected to be scared, not bored.
- How do you discover new, or new to you, horror books?
- Most of my horror book recommendations come from people I follow on social media. I don’t read all of them, but I do usually add them to my TBR. If I had to pinpoint the app that’s responsible for a majority of my horror book recommendations, it would be a tie between YouTube and Instagram.
- What was the last horror book that you bought?
- It’s been a while since I’ve bought a book, let alone a horror one. If my memory serves me right, the last horror book I bought was Pet Semetary. I remember picking it up at Kroger because it was on sale.
- What horror book is at the top of your wishlist?
- Our Share of Night, Mariana Enriquez, translated by Megan McDowell, the cover is beautiful and I love reading translated works.
